Celebrating more than 60 years, the Wauconda Memorial Day Parade travels along Main Street where families line the street hours before the parade begins. The parade ends at Memorial Park where there is an American Legion ceremony honoring the veterans.
The 2014 parade Grand Marshall and keynote speaker for the American Legion ceremony was Retired Brigadier General Ronald Morrow who has with 33 years of service including twenty years full time Army National Guard for Illinois. Iraqi Freedom War Veteran. Graduate of U.S. Army War College with a Master's Degree in Strategic Planning. Graduate of University of Illinois with Master's Degree in Public Administration. He is married to Pam and they have six children, 15 grandchildren and two more on the way. The general is a member of the VFW, American legion, War College Alumni Association, University of Illinois Alumni Association, National Guard Association of Illinois and National Guard Association of the United States. Brig. Gen. Morrow's military awards and decorations include a Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, eight Army Reserve Component Achievement Medals, two Humanitarian Service Medals, and a Combat Action Badge among others.
We are planning a flyover of vintage World War II planes.
We have a special young singer, Tru Kathleen Pfeiffer, singing the National Anthem. Tru is 9 years old, attends Robert Crown School and has been an Americam Legion Auxilliary Member since she was born.
